Polished concrete cannot do any of those things because there is no film. The densifier reacts with the slab chemically; the impregnator sealer penetrates rather than coats. The slab opens up; the aggregate begins to read; the surface profile is set. Day two: lithium-silicate densifier penetrates the open slab and chemically hardens it from the inside out. Polishing pads step from 400 to 800 to 1500 grit. The surface tightens, the reflection clarifies, and the finished polish level emerges. Day three: final burnish pass, penetrating impregnator-sealer, walk-on. Vehicle traffic returns at 72 hours.

Every grind pass runs through a HEPA-filtered vacuum system. No silica dust escapes into the house. No fumes. No off-gassing. The process is mechanical and chemical, not solvent-based, which is why polished concrete is installable in an attached garage that opens directly to the kitchen without disrupting the rest of the home.

Finish levels for a residential garage

Can you polish an older garage slab with paint or epoxy on it?

Yes. Coating removal is the first step. We mechanically strip the old epoxy, paint, mastic, or sealer using diamond grinders before the polishing process begins. Once the slab is bare, we evaluate it for crack repair, joint fill, and surface defects. Most older garage slabs in Phoenix turn out beautifully under a salt-and-pepper or full-aggregate exposure once the coating is gone and the natural patina of the cured concrete comes through.
